How Motivation Works

The meaning is that as long as a person can make the appropriate amount of disequilibrium, then this will trigger this person changing his or her behavior. As a result this will lead to the adjustment around thought processing that in turn signals more and more adjustment within a person’s demeanor. The change in behavior can be negative or positive, while still remaining motivated. For example Adolf Hitler was highly motivated, but many believe his motivation to be negative. On the other hand Opera Winfree is highly motivated, while most think her motivation to be very positive. The point is– you can be very motivated in good and bad ways.

Weiner Heider (1958;1974) formed a 2nd cognitive approach referred to as the present attribution concept. Each person attempts to explain accomplishments or lack of success of oneself along with other people by presenting particular attributions is all that this theory suggests. They’re internal or external and are within the individuals control or out of control.

This type of approach alleges the recipe known as the expectancy theory according to ‘Vroom in 1964′ and states:
- “Motivation = Perceived Probability of Success (Expectancy)
- Value of Obtaining Goal (Valance, Value)
- Connection of Success and Reward (Instrumentality)”

What is Motivation?
It comes from within but is influenced either extrinsic (outside the person) or intrinsic (internal to the person). Not all people are motivated, some more than others. All humans are capable of getting motivated yet not all people choose to be or get motivated. Why? We think this is difference between passengers (followers) and drivers (leaders).
